Barbering is a hands-on business. Your training should be hands-on, too. Alva Beauty Collective’s program is built for students who want to put the work in and learn a new skill they can use to start the next chapter of their life. Instead of spending most of your time in lectures, our program allows you to spend those in-person hours seeing practical demonstrations and developing your techniques. Eventually, you can practice those skills on real clients in our student barbershop, under the supervision of licensed professionals. It’s work that helps you get comfortable working with real people in a real shop setting, not just cutting hair on a mannequin.

Barber Program Highlights

• Hybrid flexibility: Complete the theory portion of your required state hours online from home, so studying can fit around work, family, and life.
• Technique-first class time: In-person sessions are built around demonstrations, hands-on practice, and instructor feedback. We focus on the skills you’ll use on the floor.
• Barbershop-focused training: Practice core services like cutting and finishing, clipper control, detailing, and grooming so your work becomes consistent and repeatable.
• Bilingual instruction: Classes are available in English and Spanish (availability may vary by start date).
• State-approved curriculum: Training aligns with California State Board requirements and is designed to help you prepare to sit for the state board exam.
• Experienced instructors: Learn from working professionals who coach technique, service flow, and professional standards.
• Real-client practice opportunities: Build confidence through supervised service experience—all services provided by students under the supervision of licensed professionals.
